NEW GLOUCESTER — Pineland Farms will celebrate the start of the summer season this Saturday, May 23, by offering a wide array of fun activities planned for opening day of its Family Farmyard.
Youngsters will have the opportunity to try their hand at such every-day farm chores as milking a cow and collecting eggs, and can team up with their parents to compete in farm-themed relay races and obstacle courses planned as part of Pineland Farms’ first annual Farmers Olympics.
Adding extra festivity to the occasion will be barn dancing, with music provided by a multi-generational fiddle ensemble featuring musicians from age 10 to “ageless.” Billed as Les Bijoux (The Jewels), the Lewiston-Auburn-based group plays an assortment of classic French Canadian and Celtic jigs and reels, as well as old-time New England polkas and two-steps.
Saturday’s Family Farmyard opening day program runs from noon until 5 p.m. Admission is $5. Tickets may be purchased at Pineland Farms’ Welcome Center/Market, with trolley rides provided to the Family Farmyard. Pineland Farms is located at 15 Farm View Drive in New Gloucester.
