LIVERMORE — The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center will host its 5th Rally for Norlands Civil War Re-enactment Weekend on June 13 and 14.

Don’t miss one of the largest Civil War Reenactments in Maine featuring a wide variety of living history demonstrations, exhibits, and engaging activities remembering the activities of the Civil War in the Spring of 1864.

The event is organized by the 3rd Maine Company A and 15th Alabama Company G to benefit Maine’s oldest living history farm and museum. The 445 acres of rolling hills surrounding the historic Washburn mansion, meeting house, cape house, and one-room schoolhouse make Norlands an ideal place to experience the battles once fought in similar communities to the south and the impact of war on the families who remained on the rural home front.

Union and Confederate military and civilian reenactors from across New England will be camped on the grounds. The event features:

-A full-scale battle scenario

-Blacksmiths

-19th-century fashion show

-Battle field surgeon

-Farm-life programs

-Ladies’ Victorian tea

-Musket firing and drills

-Storytelling

-One-room schoolhouse

-Tours of the Washburn family mansion

-Sanitary Commission: history exhibits and traditional crafts

-Programs about the Washburns and Livermore’s Civil War soldiers

-Horse-drawn wagon rides

-Saturday night supper and Contra Dance with The Racket Factory

-President Abraham Lincoln makes a special appearance on Saturday

Plenty of hands-on history activities are planned for all ages during these two days of living history and fun at the Norlands!
