PORTLAND — Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered in the Fore River near 58 Fore St. early Friday morning.

Lt. James Sweatt said the woman, described as an Asian female between 50 and 60 years old, was discovered by a pedestrian on the East End Trail at about 6:10 a.m.

Sweatt said early indications are the death is not suspicious, but the woman has not been identified. She was wearing a blue denim jacket and teal-colored jeans, and has a thin build and dark hair.

Sweatt said the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has joined the investigation. Anyone with information about the woman’s identity is asked to contact the police at 874-8575.
