BETHEL — Freshman pitcher Gavin Bates tossed a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts as St. Dom’s blanked Telstar 10-0 in MVC baseball action Thursday afternoon.

Junior right fielder Nate Richards plated a pair of runs on a single in the four-run fourth inning for the Saints (9-5).

Jack Williamson took the mound loss for the Rebels (3-12).

Winthrop 4, Monmouth 2

WINTHROP — Senior right fielder Ben Caprara slugged a pair of hits for three RBIs as Winthrop out paced Monmouth 4-2 in MVC baseball action Thursday afternoon.

Senior Ben Allen pitched well for the Ramblers (13-2) and kept Monmouth off balance. Caprara’s single in the sixth inning plated the go-ahead run for Winthrop.

The catcher, Nick Dovinsky, had two hits for the Mustangs (8-7). Travis Sanborn was 1-for-3 at the plate and pitched a solid game with five strike outs and two walks despite taking the loss for Monmouth.

Gray-NG 10, Fryeburg 9

GRAY — Senior short stop Tyler St.Pierre was perfect on the afternoon with four hits, including three doubles, and a walk as Gray-New Gloucester edged Fryeburg, 10-9, in WMC baseball action Thursday afternoon.

The Patriots (7-8) were trailing 9-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning when they loaded the bases for sophomore left fielder Tanner Mann to double home two runs. Taking no chances, Fryeburg, intentionally walked St.Pierre, who was 4-for-4 prior to his latest plate appearance.

John Henry Villanueva was at the plate when a rattled Fryeburg relief pitcher couldn’t control his pitching effort, and gave up the game on a wild pitch.

First baseman, Kegan Jones, singled in a pair of runs in the first inning and sacrificed home another run in the third inning for the Raiders (2-13),

Softball

Dirigo 15, Mountain Valley 2

DIXFIELD — Emma Lueders launched a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning as Dirigo steamed to a 15-2 victory over Mountain Valley in softball action Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to spell the beginning of the end for Mountain Valley. Gabby Scott had a pair of hits with a two-run RBI single in the first and a one-run RBI double in the third for Dirigo.

Lindsay Marston had a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning for the Falcons.

Telstar 18, St. Dom’s 0

BETHEL — Sophomore left fielder Tehya Johnson belted a pair of hits, including a triple and five RBIs, as Telstar thundered to an 18-0 triumph over St. Dom’s in MVC softball action Thursday afternoon.

The Rebels (13-2) scored 13 runs in the first inning. Sadie Ellsworth contributed two hits and four runs for Telstar.

Johanna Cullenberg and Janelle Bryant collected the Saint’s (1-13) only hits.
