FARMINGTON — Two people from New Portland were injured in a rear-end collision Tuesday afternoon on Route 27, Farmington police officer Justin Blais said.

Lewis Belanger, 68, and his passenger, Elizabeth Day, 84, were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital, Blais said. Belanger’s wife, Sharlene Belanger, 65, was not hurt.

Blais said Lewis Belanger was driving north at about 2 p.m. and stopped his 2011 Subaru Legacy for a 2013 Honda Pilot driven by Laura Keaten, 35, of Farmington who was stopped to turn left onto Stanley Road.

Jonathan Downing, 43, of Carrabassett Valley came around a curve and was unable to stop his 2000 Toyota Tundra, which struck Belanger’s car and pushed it into Keaten’s, the officer said.

Downing was issued a summons on a charge of failing to maintain a motor vehicle, Blais said.

Keaten and her daughter, who was riding with her, and Downing were not injured, the officer said.

Downing and Keaten were able to drive their vehicles away; Belanger’s car was towed by Collins Wrecker.

Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Farmington Fire and Rescue personnel helped at the scene.
