BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Friends of Windjammer Days announced the fleet of seven Windjammers that will be participating in the 53rd annual Windjammer Days. The festival will take place in Boothbay Harbor from Sunday, June 21 to  Saturday, June 27.

A windjammer is a large sailing ship with an iron or steel hull build to carry cargo in the nineteenth and early twentieth century

Alert is a 56-foot-long windjammer from Bailey Island. The captains of Alert are Bethany McNelly-Davis and Perry Davis. 

American Eagle based in Rockland is a 92-foot-long windjammer that was built in 1930 and rebuilt in 1984. John Foss is the captain.

Bowdoin is an 88-foot-long schooner from Castine and was built in 1920 for Donald B. MacMillan, the famed Arctic explorer. The captain is Eric Jergenson.

Eastwind is a 65-foot-long schooner that was built by husband and wife Herb and Doris Smith who built a total of six schooners that they sailed across the world. Tom and Jennifer Smith are the captains of the schooner.

Lazy Jack is a 48-foot fishing schooner that was constructed in Massachusetts. Captain Joe Tassi charters this boat out of Boothbay Harbor, with his son, Michael. Maine Magazine is her 2015 sponsor.

Heritage is a 145-foot-long schooner. It is the newest Maine coasting schooner that was built in 1983 and with the home port in Rockland. The captains are Doug and Linda Lee.

Ernestina Morrissey was launched in 1894 in Essex, MA. This 156-foot schooner now calls the New Bedford Whaling Museum in Connecticut home but she is undergoing extensive renovations at the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard. Harold Burnham is the captain.
