BRIDGTON — Gallery 302 will welcome mixed media artist Maya Kuvaja at a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 26. Her work will be on exhibit through July 16 at the gallery, 112 Main St.
Born in Boston, raised in Coastal Maine and graduating from Maine College of Art, Kuvaja now resides in Bridgton. She is a recipient of a Maine Arts Commission grant and her work is exhibited frequently in New England and included in many private collections.
Kuvaja’s work often explores the complex relationship between humans and the natural world. Her current series is inspired by the literary movement of Magical Realism and the long human tradition of visual storytelling. “Here I explore the moment at which myth, science, nature, industry and religion come together in human consciousness, creating a new multi-layered narrative,” she said.
Incorporated within her mixed media paintings are image transfers, dry media drawings, oil glazes and opaque paint in a process that overlaps diverse techniques and images.
For those intrigued by her process, there will be a demonstration of her varied techniques at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Gallery 302.
