AARP to hold annual outing

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter AARP will hold it’s annual July outing in place of its regular meeting Monday, July 13.

They will meet at 11:30 a.m. at Maurice’s. Lunch will be followed by a tour of McLaughlin’s Gardens for those interested.

Holiday pie sale set for July 4

OTISFIELD — Otisfield will hold a Fourth of July pie sale to raise funds for the Otisfield Volunteer Fire Association. 

They request to those donating that pies be placed in a disposable pan, labeled and contain the baker’s phone number and address.

Pies and other baked goods can be dropped off at Spurrs Corner Fire Station on Route 121.

Literacy volunteers announce successful fundraiser

FARMINGTON — Literacy Volunteers raised $3,500 by hosting a book sale where more than 5,000 books were for sale. The sale was to help fund continuing operations.

There were 41 volunteers who worked almost 300 hours to sort, set up and take down for the three-day event. Two truckloads of unsold books were donated to the Salvation Army and another seven boxes were given to Touch of Class.

Parade will follow community breakfast

OTISFIELD — Otisfield will hold a free community breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4, with parade lineup beginning at 9 a.m. south of the fire station on Route 121 in Cutler’s Field.

Parade will begin at 10 a.m., rain shine.

A pie sale and other festivities will take place after the parade.

Madrid Historical Society to host annual picnic

MADRID — The Madrid Historical Society will host the town’s annual picnic, Saturday, July 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The picnic will take place in “Bud’s Field” on Reeds Mill Road, and banners and signs will mark the location.

The society will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, a barbecue and place settings along with games for kids and adults. Participants should bring a dish to share and a beverage.

All residents and landowners in Madrid are welcome to attend along with their families and friends.

The Madrid Historical Society seeks to preserve the memories and heritage of the Township of Madrid for future generations as well as provide community activities for the current generations. In addition to the annual summer picnic, MHS provides a Christmas party for the children of Madrid.

Otisfield to host strawberry shortcake benefit

OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Historical Society will be hosting a fundraiser at the Old Town House from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, on 53 Bell Road in Otisfield.

The public is invited to see the new renovations before going to the 7 p.m. Trick Britches concert at Bell Hill Meetinghouse.

Maine Educational Opportunity Center holding free workshops

LEWISTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host a free workshop entitled Essentials of College Planning for adults 19 and older.

The workshop will be offered at the Western Maine University and Community College Center, 232 Main St., on Monday, July 6, at 10 a.m.
