Story hours begin at Underwood Memorial Library

FAYETTE — Underwood Memorial Library will begin its summer story hours on Thursday, July 9, at 10 a.m. and continue each Thursday until Aug. 20.

The theme for the summer is Every Hero has a Story. Participants may join Lady Elaine and helpers for to celebrate her 20th year of story hours. Story time will include stories, crafts, door prizes and take-home bags.

Peru Historical Society to meet

PERU — The Peru Historical Society will meet Thursday, July 9, at 1 p.m. at the Historical Society Building.

Waterford Historical Society to discuss, explore mines

WATERFORD — The Waterford Historical Society will hold two events that will discuss and explore mines.

It will meet on Thursday, July 9, at 7 p.m. to hear a program on rocks and minerals in Waterford presented by Bob Spencer of South Waterford, who has been doing extensive research into mining in the area before the 1940s. The meeting will take place at the Wilkins House next to the Congregational Church in Waterford Flat.

Anyone with more recent memories of the mines of Waterford is invited to come and share that information. There will be potluck refreshments.

A historical walking tour of some mines will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Old Town House next to Keoka Town Beach in Waterford. Collecting will not be allowed.

‘Souper’ supper set for July 10

The Chesterville Grange will be holding a public “souper” supper on Friday, July 10, serving between 5 and 6:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children.

Oxford Historical Society to hold annual yard, bake sale

OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will hold its annual yard and bake sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 11, at 73 Pleasant St.

They are also seeking donations to be sold. Items can be dropped off any Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. or by calling and making an appointment. The sale will not accept electronics, clothing or appliances.

Congregational Church of East Sumner to host supper, raffle

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will hold a community potluck supper and raffle beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at 50 Main St., Sumner.

Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share or make a donation for the meal.

SMH to teach infant CPR

NORWAY — The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital is offering Infant CPR classes. These classes are helpful to both new and experienced parents. The next class will be held on Saturday, July 11, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Office Building, 193 Main St.

The class will teach the skills to do CPR and choking rescue on babies less than one year old. This is a hands-on experience, with manikins used for practice.

Fee is $10 per person. Pre-registration with payment is required.

Mystery trip set for July 31

RUMFORD — The Rumford Seniors will host a mystery trip on Friday, July 31.

There will be admission for 40 people, and registration is required by Tuesday, July 21, and can be done at the Rumford Senior Center in the old Peru School.

The cost for this trip is $35 for members and $40 for non-members. Participant should bring lunch.
