BIDDEFORD — Former Lewiston City Administrator Jim Bennett, Presque Isle’s City Manager for the past five years, will move back south to Biddeford.

Bennett is scheduled to begin as Biddef0rd’s city manager on Aug. 17, Biddeford City staff confirmed Wednesday.

He replaces 30 year veteran John Bubier, who stays on as acting manager until Bennett starts in Biddeford. Eventually, Bubier will shift to manager of economic development projects for the city.

Bennett, a Lisbon-native, was Lewiston’s top administrator for seven years, from 2002 to 2009. He came to Lewiston after serving as Westbrook’s top administrator.

Bennett’s relationship with the Lewiston council soured, and they decided to buy out his contract in July 2009.

During his time as Lewiston’s administrator, he oversaw the development of the city’s gateways and the expansion of the Wal-Mart distribution center.
