FARMINGTON — Evan Roberts tossed a complete game four-hitter helping Franklin County to a 5-1 win over Augusta, last week at Hippach Field, in Amercian Legion baseball Zone 2 play.

Roberts struck out five while inducing nine ground ball outs. Franklin County improved to 2-1.

Former Spruce Mountain standout, Payton Kennison, entered the game in a relief role and struck out six without allowing a hit over three innings.

Kennison transferred to Cony his senior year and last season pitched for the Thomas College Terriers, where he finished his freshman season with a 2-4 record in nine appearances.

Anthony Franchetti pounded out three singles in the win for Franklin County.

Franklin County scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. Ryan Pratt opened the game slashing a single to left field. Pratt scored when brother Andrew drilled a base hit to left.

Amos Herrin and Franchetti followed with singles as the Flyers threatened to break the game open early with just one out. Franklin, however, was unable to break through when the next two batters went out.

The Pratt boys struck again in the second inning, this time with two outs. Ryan singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Andrew’s base hit.

In the third, Franchetti opened the inning with a base hit, moved to third on a pair of walks and scored on a wild pitch giving the Flyers a 3-0 lead.

Augusta’s Cam Brochu cut the Franklin lead to 3-1, in the sixth, smashing a 375-foot home run to left field.

Franklin added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth without the benefit of a hit.

Franklin County is slated to host unbeaten New Auburn Tuesday evening at Hippach Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
