CHESTERVILLE — Several local organizations joined together to honor veterans past and present with a day of celebration organized by the War Memorial Service Celebration Committee in May.

More than one-hundred people attended the celebration, and the American Legion Roderick-Crosby Post 28 Color Guard provided a presentation of the flag along with singer Ana Kemble, who sang the Star Spangled Banner.

State Sen. Tom Saviello, R-Wilton, state Rep. Russell Black, R-Wilton, and Guy Iverson made speeches about veterans, their dedication and sacrifices to preserve the country’s freedoms. Bagpiper Bob Underwood and his entourage entertained with additional musical tributes. Greg Soule provided a historical timeline of veteran participation throughout the country’s conflicts and the impact that Maine veterans had.

The Chesterville Center Union Meeting House was transformed by a multitude of volunteers. Everywhere there were testaments honoring veterans with their pictures, stories and orders to commemorate all they had done throughout their military career. Many took the microphone to provide family tributes and musical tributes.
