LEWISTON — City Councilor Michael Lachance didn’t waste any time Monday, taking out his nominating petition and handing it back in complete that same day.

Lachance became the first to confirm a spot on the city’s Nov. 3 municipal ballot. He’s one of 16 who signaled their intention to run for one of the open seats on the City Council, the School Committee or the mayor’s chair.

Lewiston candidates have until Sept. 4 to complete their nomination papers to reserve a spot on the ballot. They can register and pick them up at the City Clerk’s office in City Hall.

In addition to Lachance, City Council candidates passing petitions now are:

— Jim Lysen, 26 Taylor Hill Road, Ward 1;

— Stavros Mendros, 135 Hogan Road, Ward 2;

Candidates for School Committee include Ward 1’s Linda Scott, 45 Pettingill St., and Ward 4’s James R. Handy, 9 Maplewood Road.

John Butler, 20 Ware St., and Megan D. Parks, 120 Montello St., are passing petitions seeking the School Committee’s at-large seat.

Mayoral hopefuls need to collect between 100 and 200 signatures from residents living anywhere in Lewiston. City Council and School Committee hopefuls need to collect between 50 and 100 signatures.

At-large School Committee hopefuls can collect signatures from residents living anywhere in the city. All others seeking office need signatures from residents living in the ward they would like to represent.
