Head start participates in food program

LEWISTON — Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care announced its participation in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program effective in July.

Meals are available at no separate charge to all enrolled children without regard to race, color, national origin, age, disability, sex, gender identity, religion, reprisal, and where applicable, political beliefs, marital status, familial or parental status, sexual orientation, or all or part of an individual’s income is derived from any public assistance program, or protected genetic information in employment or in any program or activity conducted or funded by the Department.

Open mic celebrates spirituality

AUBURN — the Pleasant Note Coffeehouse presents Open Mic at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, at the First Universalist Church of Auburn, 169 Pleasant St.

This free monthly forum celebrates the spirituality of music and spoken word. Brian “Lone Wolf” Bickford will host this month’s show.

Parking is accessible, refreshments will be served, and the children’s room will be available.

Church announces movie night

AUBURN — The Auburn United Methodist Church has announced it will sponsor free movie night Wednesdays in July.

“Amsted” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on July 15, “The Enchanted Cottage” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on July 22 and “Babbette’s Feast” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on July 29.

The movie nights will be held at 439 Park Ave. Popcorn and soda will be provided.

Garden club celebrates 100th year

CAMDEN — The Camden Garden Club will celebrate its 100th year with a special house and garden tour Thursday, July 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Camden Garden Club is the oldest Garden Club in Maine. The club’s goal is to preserve and beautify the public spaces of Camden. The Annual House and Garden Tour began in 1947 with about 500 people. Attendance has now skyrocketed to over 2,000. It is held rain
or shine.

Light refreshments will be served at Norumbega Inn and Whitehall Inn, both on High Street. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 day of the tour.

Sabattus Summer Festival July 16

SABATTUS — The Town of Sabattus will hold its ninth Annual Sabattus Summer Festival for town residents Thursday, July 16, at the Town Hall from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. rain or shine.

Residents will enjoy free barbecued burgers and hot dogs with all the fixings.

Activities include a hula hoop contest, games and face painting, and the fire and police departments will show off their vehicles.

Residents should bring a picnic blanket or chair and a big appetite! Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is made possible by the generosity of local businesses and residents. No taxpayer money is used to fund this event.
