CARTHAGE — A Med-Care Ambulance crew out of Mexico was called to Basin Road off Route 2 on Friday for a man injured at about 3:15 p.m. in a chain saw accident.
At first, the crew radioed for a medical helicopter based at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston to meet them in the large hay field beside Route 2 opposite R.S. Osgood & Sons farm equipment store in East Dixfield. A Dixfield police officer secured the scene.
However, after learning that LifeFlight had yet to lift off by 4 p.m., the ambulance crew decided to take the 50-year-old man with a head injury to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. LifeFlight was redirected to fly to FMH.
