NORWAY— Bertha E. Smith, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep late Friday, July 24, at the Norway Rehabilitation Center, after spending the day with her loving family at her side.

Mrs. Smith was born at home in Raymond on February 5, 1935, to Harland Thurlow and Bessie Knight. She was raised on the farm with her seven siblings, four brothers and three sisters and a very special aunt Abbie Knight. She attended Windham/Raymond schools. Mrs. Smith was married to Donald E. Smith of Bolsters Mills, they had three children Gene Smith and his wife Chris of Norway; Marge Masterman and her partner David Billings of Otisfield and Connie Morrill and her husband Brian of Otisfield; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She loved spending time riding and going out to eat with her brother Richard Thurlow and his wife, Bertha. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and also worked at Norway Footwear for many years. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, playing cards, going for long rides, playing Bingo, listening to loud country music and eating ice cream. She had a very positive outlook on life and an incredible sense of humor that will not be forgotten.

Visiting hours were held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road, Casco, where a funeral service was held Wednesday at 11 am. Interment will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Bolsters Mills. On line condolences may be left for the family at hallfuneralhomeinc.com.
