Stephens ’56 plans mini reunion

PERU — Stephens High School Class of 1956 will hold its Mini Reunion Saturday, Aug. 8, at 1 p.m. at Stephen Gallant’s home Worthley Pond.  

There will not be a luncheon this month.

Spaghetti supper planned

HARRISON — Ronald G St John VFW Post No. 9328 in Harrison will be holding a spaghetti supper on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Waterford Road.

Cost of admission for adults is $10, and children 10 and under are $5. Come join us at the VFW Hall.

The menu will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad and garlic bread with gingerbread and cookies for dessert.

Strong High School to host reunion

STRONG — The annual Strong High School Alumni Reunion will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Strong Elementary School. 

Doors will open at 11 a.m. for registration, social time and raffle ticket sales of donated items. 

A turkey dinner will be served at 1 p.m. at a cost of $13. All proceeds go to the scholarship fund.

Anyone who has ever attended the Strong School is eligible for alumni status.

Worthley Pond holds Christmas in July

PERU — Christmas in July at Worthley Pond, celebrated Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 24, 25 and 26, had more cottages and boats decorated than ever before.

The judges this year were Sheriff Wayne Gallant, Father Greg Dube and Seminarian Matthew Gregory.

The results are:

Cottages: first place, the Williams cottage; second place, the Lariviere cottage; third place, the Zadakis cottage; and honorable mention were Stephen Gallant, Jim Schutte, David Ellis and Dennis Gallant.

Boats: first place, Ken Reno; second place, Mark and Barbara Vaughn; third place, Joel and John Tardiff; and honorable mentions, Gerard Bergeron and Bruce Eastman.

Rumford Seniors list events

PERU — The Rumford Senior Citizens have announced upcoming events. They meet at the old Peru school on Main Street.

Nickel bingo runs Tuesdays and Thursdays. Games start at 12:30 p.m. Non-members are welcome.

They are taking sign-ups for a Fryeburg Fair trip scheduled for Oct. 6. Cost of the trip will be $10.00 for members and $15.00 for non-members.

Sign-ups are also be held for tables for the Christmas fair held at the old Peru school Dec. 5. Small tables are $15, and large tables $25.

Rumford Sr Citizens Membership meetings held the fourth Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. and are followed by pot luck lunch.

AARP to meet

SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet at noon Monday, Aug. 10, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street. A cold lunch of ham and vegetable plate will be served.

First Baptist plans VBS

MEXICO — Mexico First Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, Aug. 10 to 14.

Participants may hike to Mt. Killamanjaro as they trek through the book of proverbs on an exciting journey exploring the wonders of the mountain and of God.

There will be games, crafts, singing and snacks — including a cotton candy night. This all adds up to one sweet adventure.

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met at 9:15 a.m. Friday, July 24, at the Oxford Rec Center on King Street. A 13-and-a-half table Mitchell movement was enjoyed.
