1971 – 2015

AUBURN — Cherie Sargent, 43, of Back Cove Drive in Turner, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 4, after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.

She was born on Sept. 15, 1971, in Lewiston, the daughter of Rosita Friel of Buckfield and Dale Gagne of Lewiston.

Cherie graduated from Buckfield Junior-Senior High School in 1989. She received a Bachelor of Science degree and an Master of Business Administration from University of Maine at Orono, and later received her CPA certification. She was working as the finance director for the town of Poland until recently.

She married her high school sweetheart, Dean Sargent, on June 3, 1995, and they celebrated 20 years together. Cherie loved spending time with her family, which was most important to her.

Cherie was a soccer and softball coach for the town of Turner. She enjoyed playing softball, hiking and skiing, and she even had her motorcycle license.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Auburn all of her life.

She leaves behind her husband; her four children, Gabrielle, Nicole, Anna and Trevor; her parents; her sisters, Karen Henderson and her husband, Shawn, Marcia Powers and her husband, Brendan, Tiffany Geary, and Dale Gagne Jr.; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by both sets of grandparents.

Their kindness and generosity made a major difference in the last years of her life. Also a big thank-you to family and friends who did so much for her and her family during these very trying times.
