LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St., will host the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, for a free, public informational session about the association’s Volunteer Scribes Program at 10:30 a.m. on Tues., Aug. 25, in the Library’s first floor Couture Room. The meeting is open to Alzheimer’s patients and their family members.
The Lewiston Volunteer Scribes program features trained, supervised and dedicated Bates College students who interview and write the life stories of those living with dementia. “I am so glad that I had this opportunity to have my story written, while also getting to know my delightful and compassionate scribe,” said one recent participant in the Volunteer Scribes program.
Participants who are living with Alzheimer’s or related dementias are needed for this special program. In addition to having one’s life story recorded, the program enables those with memory issues to play an important role as teacher by providing the student scribes with invaluable lessons about life with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
