BUXTON — Mireille Clapp, mixed media sculptor, will display her work from Friday, Aug. 21, to Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Saco River Theatre.

Clapp’s work has focused on mixed media wall sculpture and the results have often been referred to as “jewels for walls.” She uses many materials, primarily steel, copper, aluminum, bronze and brass, which combine with contrasting materials such as wood, glass, stone, coral or cloth to provide surprising textural relationships.

Sometimes paint is applied to provide rich color effects as well. She is particularly fascinated by the tension between order and disorder, so her pieces often combine organic and geometric shapes. The fabrication process can involve the use of a welder, plasma cutter, grinders and polishers and a variety of wires and adhesives to combine the disparate elements.

Clapp has shown extensively in New England. Her work is in the permanent collections of Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., the Saint Botolph Club in Boston, the Sun Valley Lodge in Idaho and the Round Barn Sculpture Park in Waitsfield, Vt. Her sculpture is also in private collections around the U.S. and in Brazil, Canada, China, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
