WOOLWICH (AP) — Police say three people were injured in a four-vehicle crash in Maine.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Woolwich.
Police say 45-year-old Thomas Palmer, of Montpelier, Vermont, was driving north on Route 1 when he rear ended another car driven by 39-year-old Albert Pinkham of Wiscasset.
Palmer’s Chevy pickup truck shoved Pinkham’s car into the southbound lane, causing it to collide with a van driven by 70-year-old Gloria Simpson of Bradenton, Florida.
Police say there was a “pinball effect.” The collision pushed Simpson’s van into another vehicle operated by 66-year-old Martin Hayden of Brunswick.
Simpson, her husband Paul Simpson and Hayden were taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Paul Simpson was transferred to Maine Medical Center in critical condition.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
