PARIS — Oxford County commissioners have signed a three-year contract that raises jail staff’s wages and provides new benefits.
The three-member commission unanimously approved the contract Tuesday evening after a few weeks of negotiations. The contract, which comes on the heels of a major June agreement with the Sheriff’s Office to boost deputies’ pay, ensures raises each year until 2017 and adds a dental and vision insurance plan.
Approximately 13 employees operate the Oxford County Jail in Paris, a 72-hour holding facility with an operating budget of around $1.2 million a year.
Wage increases are retroactive to Jan. 1, 2015. Other changes, such as the process for filing grievances for certain causes, time limits related to commissioners meetings, raising a health reimbursement account from $2,000 to $4,000 and creating a flexible medical spending account, are effective Aug. 19.
Under the terms of the new contract, corrections officers’ pay will increase 2 percent in each year of the contract, corporals’ earnings will increase 25 cents per hour more than corrections officers, and sergeants’ pay will increase 50 cents per hour more than corrections officers.
Employees ineligible for a step increase will also receive a 2 percent increase in their hourly wage rate, according to the contract.
