WOODSTOCK – Residents voted overwhelmingly Tuesday evening to accept the newly completed section of Outlook Road from resident Lloyd Poland, five years after they accepted the first section of the road.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield said, “There were some people that felt we should wait until the annual town meeting, so we could get a larger turnout. However, the board felt that since we approved the first section of Outlook Road during a special town meeting, and it was approved overwhelmingly, it would be OK to hold another special town meeting for this section.”

In October 2008, Poland approached the town about purchasing a parcel of his land that he and his company had turned into a high-quality road.

“The town voted during a special town meeting in 2008 to accept the first mile of Outlook Road, and we began maintaining it on June 1, 2009,” Maxfield said. “Poland said that he would return to the town when the remainder of the road was ready to purchase.”

However, Maxfield said that Poland sat on the land for several years after properties became more difficult to sell.

“He waited until the economy shifted again before working on the road again,” Maxfield said. “This summer, Mr. Poland returned to the town and asked if we would be interested in accepting the next section of Outlook Road and maintaining it as a town road.”

Maxfield said the vote Tuesday evening to approve the next section of the road was “nearly unanimous.”
