1918 – 2015

PHIPPSBURG —  Priscilla Linnell, of Phippsburg and Seminole, Fla., and longtime resident of Lewiston–Auburn, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 20, at her summer residence in Phippsburg, after a long struggle with heart disease and cancer.

She was born Priscilla Greig on Aug. 24, 1918, to Charlotte P. and John S. Greig of Westford, Mass., where we was reared through high school. Priscilla later graduated from Lasell College in 1937 where she studied business.

In 1940, she married Howard S. Jones of Lowell, Mass.; shortly thereafter, the couple settled in Lewiston–Auburn, where they were together until his passing in 1966. In 1970, Priscilla remarried Frank W. Linnell of West Auburn, until his passing in 1978. It was after Frank’s death that she took up residence in Seminole Fla., summering in Phippsburg.

During her stay in the L-A area, Priscilla was active both directly and indirectly with Rotary, Shriners, CMG Hospital, Scouting and the Martindale Country Club. In Phippsburg, she enjoyed sharing her love of gardening with fellow garden club members in Bath. She also enjoyed activities at the Bath senior center.

Priscilla had a wide variety of interests; she loved boating, swimming, tennis and particularly golf — she led the formation of the Ladies Golf League in Seminole, Fla., and was an avid golfer into her early 90s. She traveled extensively; visiting China and hiking the Great Wall and touring Hong Kong, also touring of Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and most of Europe. Priscilla enjoyed games and social activities. She was an accomplished bridge player, and regularly played board games with friends and family up until most recently when disease took over (she was still very sharp and a worthy opponent). Priscilla was most proud of her affiliation of the Daughters of the Revolution.

Priscilla is survived by her children, Valerie Pence of Springvale, Cynthia Baker of Amherst, N.H., and Howard “Skip” Jones of Gorham, N.H.; and grandchildren, Daniel Pence of Rowlett, Texas, Stanley Pence of Denver, Colo., Rachel Pence of Kodiak, Alaska, Alexis Baker of Amherst, N.H., Ian Jones of Tolland, Ct., and Caitlin Jones of South Portland.

Priscilla will be sadly missed by family and friends and will be remembered for her vitality and enthusiasm.
