BETHEL – The Bethel Historical Society will host its annual business meeting and potluck supper Thursday, Sept. 10, Executive Director Randall Bennett said. 

The supper is at 6:30 p.m.; a brief business meeting at 7:30 p.m. when officers and trustees will be elected. Also, the Noll Volunteer Service Award will be presented.

“Anybody can come for the potluck supper and the business meeting,” Bennett said. “The business meeting doesn’t take long at all, and after that, we’re hosting a program that should be very interesting.”

Lovell folklorist and oral historian Jo Radner will present a program called “Yankee Ingenuity.” She will read from a collection of stories from headstrong and resourceful people throughout history.

“We’ve known Jo for a number of years,” Bennett said. “She’s spoken here before. Her family had a summer place in Lovell, and she recently retired there. She’s won numerous awards over the years for her presentations. She’s collected a lot of local folklore, legends and stories, and she picked some of the more interesting ones to present.”

The recipient of the Noll Volunteer Service Award will be decided by the staff working with the Board of Trustees president and some officers.

“We really have a great group of volunteers with the Bethel Historical Society,” he said. “I can’t thank them enough for all the help they give. There are so many people who are deserving of a volunteer award.”
