FARMINGTON — Police said two drivers were charged after a head-on collision on Route 2 in Farmington Falls on Monday afternoon.

William Carnell, 58, of South Portland, was given a summons on a charge of distracted driving, and William Wylie, 32, of Sidney, was given a criminal summons on a charge of driving with a suspended license, Farmington police officer Justin Blais said at the scene.

Wylie was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by a NorthStar ambulance for injuries to his legs, Blais said.

Carnell complained of chest pain, was checked at the scene, but refused to be taken to the hospital.

The accident occurred at 4 p.m in front of 1143 Farmington Falls Road.

Apparently Carnell was driving toward New Sharon in a 2005 Ford Taurus when police believe he may have looked at his GPS and drifted into the other lane, Blais said. Carnell does not remember doing so but based on the way the cars collided there is enough reason to believe he was distracted, Blais said.

Wylie was driving toward Farmington Falls in a 2001 Saturn.

Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
