LEWISTON — Listed in fair condition, 11-year-old Jordan Norwood is very sleepy, but is out of the intensive care unit and is no longer sedated after three surgeries, according to the boy’s father, Norman Norwood.
“He is on a regular floor,” Norman Norwood said. Jordan’s jaw is still wired shut, he has a cast on his leg, and there is a problem with his eyesight — “His eyes are functioning independent of each other,” Norwood said.
On Saturday, Aug. 15, Jordan, of Strawberry Avenue, was run over on Tall Pines Drive where he was riding his bike and crossed into the path of an SUV driven by Matthew Moran, 17, of Tall Pines Drive. He was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland by LifeFlight medical helicopter.
Doctors have still not determined if any brain damage occurred from two skull fractures that let air in, but Norman Norwood remains hopeful that damage will be minimal, if any.
“What long-lasting damage there is, only time will tell,” he said.
“The medical staff are extremely, extremely wonderful,” he said. Norman Norwood, and Jordan’s mother, Wendy Carney, have been at the hospital every day until very late at night, he said. “It’s been an emotional drain. The first 48 hours were really rough. We’re hanging in there day by day.”
A GoFundMe page at http://www.gofundme.com/cb2235g8 had raised $1,982 to help with medical expenses as of Tuesday night.
