RESPONSE: There was a Dr. Cobb’s Private Hospital at 243 Main Street in Auburn. It’s advertisement in the Lewiston Evening Journal stated: “Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat and Fitting of Glasses / New Operating Room, 25 Beds, Reasonable Terms for Bed, Board and Care. Free Operation to the needy when recommended by their physician, minister or priest.” There is no mention of births or adoptions. There was a St. Joseph’s Orphanage that was run by the Grey Nuns at Maison Marcotte which became part of the Sisters of Charity Health System in Lewiston. There was also a Lewiston and Auburn Children’s Home but whether it housed teens who gave birth and gave their babies up for adoption is unknown to Sun Spots. Let’s hope that a reader knows and shares the information you seek. Good luck! Let us know if you hear directly from any of our readers so that Sun Spots can keep this information for future queries.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The street light by my house is burnt out. Who or what number can I call to get it fixed and working again? Also, can I call that same number to report a street light that is on during the daytime (I’ve seen a few)? Thank you. — Peter G. in Lewiston.

ANSWER: Sun Spots called the city of Lewiston at 207-513-3003 and spoke with the dispatcher who was very helpful. She said all you need to do is call this number and she will write up a work order for the Public Works Department. Yes, it is the same number to answer your second question.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone in the Oxford-Norway area know where I can buy cat grass now that Wal-Mart no longer carries it? — Kay McKeen, Waterford. 743-5435. Thank you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I used to buy instant coffee at Bourque’s on Sabattus Street. It is made by Nescafe and says “Mountain Blend” extra smooth on the front of the jar. I have tried all of the local stores including mom-and-pop stores with no luck, so once again I turn to Sun Spots. — An avid reader.

ANSWER: Have you checked Shaw’s, Staples or Kmart? These stores advertise that they sell that brand of coffee.
