FARMINGTON — The Mt. Blue girls basketball team is several months away from embarking on a trip to the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida to participate in a three-day Holiday Basketball Tournament in December. However, the players, coaches and parents have been working hard since April to raise money to make this happen.

The team, coaches and adults have done various fundraisers such as Community Work Days weeding gardens etc., Bottle Drives, Car Wash, hosted a summer basketball tourney, bake sale, calendar raffle, and 8 cord of wood raffle, sold cotton candy and drinks at the Blueberry Festival, and sold Mt. Blue Cougar bracelets and key chains. Players worked at Tracy’s Kountry Kitchen as waitresses for a weekend, and all have been gathering items for a silent auction to be held later in the Fall. The Team is still looking for anyone or any business, interested in helping by making a donation for the auction such as gift cards, dinner for two, oil change, athletic or other even tickets, etc.

While the group has worked many hours and is closing in on their fundraising goal, they still need to raise another $3,000. The players are not able to raise money outside of a six-week period during

the summer as well as during their winter season due to Maine Principal Association rules and guidelines. The parents and coaches are looking to possibly add a Fall fundraiser and there are plans for a pasta dinner open to the community which will be held during the basketball pre-season.

There have also, been numerous businesses and individuals who have made contributions to the teams trip. The group would like to thank the following for their generous donations and the team will thank them again during the winter basketball season.

Gold Donations: Franklin Savings Bank, Pro Service Garage of Farmington, and Duratherm Windows.

Silver Donations: Mullen and Associates, Rocky Bjorn, Richard Bjorn, Franklin Chrysler, Central Maine Drywall, Knapp Family Practice, Shelly’s Hometown Market and Farmington Farmers Union.

Bronze Donations: Foothills Management, Stewart Durrell Agency, John Bogar, United Insurance, Norm’s Bottle Redemption, De Marco Acupuncture, Arkay Pizza, Palmer Reality, Mt. Blue Drug, Weigel Construction, Dave McLaughlin, Damon’s Photography and Dunkin Donuts.

The Team would also, like to thank the following for making donations to their Summer Basketball Tournament: Grand Sponsor – Franklin Savings Bank. Food sponsors included Food City of Wilton, Ron’s Market, Steve’s Market, Hannaford and Madore’s Market.
