NORWAY — Town Manager David Holt announced that lower Main Street will be closed all day Friday, Aug. 28, while surface pavement is installed.

The lower Main Street project, which is expected to be completed by the middle of next week, used a $400,000 matching state grant. The work included reconstructing the street and improving drainage and sidewalks from Paris Street at the Second Congregational Church to Route 26 by Aubuchon Hardware. The street has a mix of commercial and residential properties, anchored by Stephens Memorial Hospital.

The work caused traffic delays throughout the summer, but was expected to be completed by Labor Day — a target Holt said they will meet.

The project included reconstructing the street and improving drainage and sidewalks. Once completed, the area will have two 12-foot-wide travel lanes with 8-foot-wide, paved multiuse shoulders for parking or bicyclists.
