1931 – 2015

Alice D. Rumley, 83, of Dixfield, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Aug. 27.

Alice was born, the youngest of nine, to George and Delia (Rutherford) Donahue on Sept. 2, 1931. She received her education from Peru schools. She was married to Robert Rumley on Dec. 8, 1951 and together they made their home in Dixfield, where they raised two daughters, Jo and Diane.

In Alice’s younger years, she worked as a telephone operator, and then as a clerk at the Dixfield Drug Store (later known as Bartash’s) where she was employed for 25 years.

Alice was an independent woman and was always “on the go.” She enjoyed traveling (even drove across the country once) and going on day trips around the state of Maine with her friend, Audrey Garneau. Alice also enjoyed socializing, going out to eat and particularly enjoyed trips to the casino.

She is survived by her daughters, Jo Rumley of Industry, Diane Smith and her husband, Terry of Wilton; and her “adopted” daughter, Carlene Wilbur of Industry; special neighbors, Melinda and Lindy Felt and their daughter, Shiloh; many nieces, nephews and special friends including the Porter family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Rumley; and all of her siblings, Jim, Lewis, Phillip, Bill, Ernest, Lawrence, Bud, and Mary.
