1931 – 2015

WEST PARIS — Arnold E. Staples, 83, known as “Bud” of South Paris, passed away on Friday, Aug. 28, at Ledgeview Living Center with his family by his side.

Bud was born in Oxford on Sept. 14, 1931, a son of Fred and Emugene (Hunt) Staples. He attended Oxford schools and graduated from Oxford High School in 1949.

He lived and worked on the family farm until he entered the U.S. Navy and faithfully served his country during the Korean War. Upon returning from his Navy service, he worked in hotels in Florida and Massachusetts. He later returned to Maine and married Margaret Healy in February of 1958. They owned and operated Staples General Store in Welchville for several years and then owned and operated laundromats for many years. After the laundromat business, he went into the Merchant Marines where he worked for BP for 15 years.

Bud was a member of the American Legion Post of Oxford, was a 50-year member of the Oxford Lodge AF & AM of Norway and was a lifetime member of the Kora Shrine.

He was a big supporter of his children and grandchildren in their school and sporting events. His family meant the world to him.

He and Margaret have lived in South Paris for eight years, after moving there from Oxford.

Surviving are his wife of South Paris; two daughters, Kelly Langbehn of Norway and Christine Staples of Norway; his son, Frederick Staples II of South Burlington, Vt.; and five grandchildren, Christa Langbehn, Carl Langbehn, Daniel and Joseph Staples and Shea Staples.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Irving Staples.
