LEWISTON — The French Club, a Franco Center course for children ages 8 to 12, will be offered in the Children’s Room of the Lewiston Public Library on six consecutive Tuesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Children with a background in French or who know some basic French will practice the language with games and other activities in a relaxed setting.

The Maine French Heritage Language Program curriculum will be used as the foundation for activities offered. This curriculum offers a wide range of activities influenced by the local Franco-American culture as well as other French-speaking cultures.

French Club will be taught by Marie Emmons, a native of Nantes, France, who has lived and been involved in the Lewiston community for the past few years.

The Franco Center provides the program free through a grant from the French American Cultural Exchange.

Participants can park free in the Centreville Garage. Parking validation is available at the Children’s Desk.

The library also offers morning story times and after-school programs such as ArtVan, Reading Dog and Cooking Club. All programs are free, but French Club, Reading Dog and Cooking Club have limited space. Parents are encouraged to call the Children’s Room at 513-3133 to register.
