MECHANIC FALLS — Route 11 will be closed Sept. 14 through 18 between downtown and Route 26 in Poland for a major culvert replacement.
The project will require a 12-mile detour for motorists, according to Maine Department of Transportation spokesman Ted Talbot.
Signs notifying motorists of the project and the need to find alternative routes were put up on the stretch between downtown Mechanic Falls at the intersection of Routes 121, 124 and 11 and south on Route 11 going toward Route 26 in Poland about two weeks ago.
Talbot said Tuesday that motorists will be detoured from downtown Mechanic Falls down Route 121 toward Welchville village in Oxford at Route 26, where motorists will be directed south back toward Poland.
“We have to replace that culvert so the pavement doesn’t continue to deteriorate,” Talbot said.
