1945 – 2015

ALASKA — Robert H. Allard, 69, of Carrabassett Valley, died Thursday, Aug. 20, from natural causes while hunting in the Wrangell Mountains in Alaska with his son, Matt.

Robert was born Oct. 17, 1945, in Lewiston to Henry and Yvette (Brillant) Allard. Bob attended Lewiston schools and served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1966.

In 1968, Bob worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron, and he became a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. By trade, Bob was a welder and in 1969, he joined the International Union of Iron Workers, Local 496, in Portland.

He married Sally Fontaine from Rumford in 1974, and they moved to South China, where they raised their family.

In 1981, Bob joined the Boilermakers Local 29 in Boston and worked through the brotherhood on jobs throughout the U.S. and internationally.

Bob retired in 2001, living six months in Thorne Bay, Alaska, and six months in Carrabassett Valley. Bob loved his family and lived an adventurous life of hunting, fishing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Allard of Carrabassett Valley; two sons, Matthew Allard, and Zachary Allard and his wife, Jacinth (Richardson); a grandson, Mason Allard; as well as two nieces, Bonnie Hill and Dawn Maitland, both from Lynn, Mass.
