BERWICK — Maine is due for a rapid cool-down after hot weather caused some schools to close because of steamy classrooms.

Forecasters say showers on Thursday and Friday will bring about a temperature swing of nearly 20 degrees by the end of the week following several days of heat.

Meteorologist Tom Hawley says the rain should add up to about 2 inches before it ends.

Maine has been experiencing the hottest weather of the year. The National Weather Service says several communities recorded heat waves — meaning at least three days of temperatures in the 90s.
