WALES – Regional School Unit 4 Superintendent Jim Hodgkin told the board of directors Wednesday that English and math test results for third, eighth- and 11th-graders were disappointing and the state has dropped the test.
The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium was discontinued because it is very difficult for students to follow, he said.
Andrew Carlton, RSU 4 director of curriculum, recommended 11 strategies to enhance student performance on future tests. They include the Star 360 program that measures a student’s growth and understanding on a more consistent basis. It will give teachers timely results and help them recognize gaps in the curriculum.
In other business, the Facilities Committee was asked to compile a list of improvements for Sabattus Primary School at 36 No Name Pond Road and Libby Tozier School at 466 Academy St. in Litchfield. Plans and recommendations will be presented at the board’s next meeting Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The board approved the Oak Hill High School French Club’s trip to Quebec City in the spring. The cost per student depends on how many attend and organizers are hoping for at least 25. For more information on the trip, contact Judy Rizk at 375-4273.
