SOUTH PORTLAND — The U.S. Coast Guard in Northern New England is telling mariners to be careful while on or near the ocean because of hazardous seas and rip currents generated by Hurricane Joaquin.
Lt. Scott McCann said although the hurricane missed the area, it has generated an elevated sea state and rip currents that are still dangerous. He says if you don’t have to go out, please wait for conditions to improve.
Mariners are advised to check weather conditions, verify their vessels are seaworthy and have proper safety gear.
