1928 – 2015

LEWISTON — On Saturday, Oct. 10, surrounded by his loving wife and family, Arthur E. Ouellette Jr. was welcomed into the kingdom of his heavenly father.

Arthur was born on Oct. 29, 1928, to Arthur and Marie Anna St. Pierre Ouellette in Auburn and graduated from Saint Dominic’s Regional High School in 1947. He received an associate degree in business and accounting from the University of Maine in 1985.

Arthur served two years in the U.S. Army with 13 months in Korea during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, a Overseas Service Bar, United Nations Service Medal and the Medal of National Defense for serving overseas.

He was self-employed with different businesses and apartment buildings in Lewiston. Arthur was also an insurance consultant with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, graduating from the American College of Life Underwriters in 1975 and was elected the president of the Life Underwriters. Arthur later worked for Coastal Energy Inc., becoming part owner and from which he retired in 1978.

He was an active member of Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Cross Church serving as a Eucharistic minister and on the finance board of the Church. Arthur was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus Council 106 of the Wallace Assembly and the Honor Guard of the 4th Degree Assembly where he was elected Faithful Navigator in 1995 – 1997. He also belonged to the American Legion, VFW, and Franco American Veterans.

Arthur’s love for music was shown in many different avenues. He was involved in many different musicals while he wintered in Largo, Fla., for many years. He was also a member of the Magic Pops Chorus in the Lewiston and Auburn area.

He is survived by his loving wife, Muriel St. Pierre Laliberte Ouellette of Lewiston, whom he married Sept. 8, 1984; two daughters, Diane and her husband, Gary Clark, of Trenton, Denise Bowden of Lewiston; two sons, Louis and his wife, Laurie Ouellette, of Wales, Rene and his wife, Phyllis Ouellette, of Canton; three stepdaughters, Denise Cote of Auburn, Suzanne Laliberte and Joline Laliberte of Wales; three brothers, Leo and his wife, Esther Ouellette, of Garden Grove, Calif., Normand Ouellette of Simi Valley, Calif., and George and his wife, Micheline Ouellette, of Inverness, Fla.: his grandchildren, Stephanie, Scott B., Derik, Jeremy, Scott D., Maeghan, Desiree, Angela, Nicole and Joshua; and 14 great-grandchildren, Daniel, Sierra, Alex, Quentin, Justice, Dylan, Trinity, Connor, Alexis, Bella, Evey, Brody, Cayla and Kylie.

He was predeceased by his parents; his first beloved wife, Lorraine Beaulieu Ouellette in 1983; his brother, Wilfred and wife, Zelda Ouellette; his sisters, Aurore and husband, George Grondin, Cecile Sommers and Jeanne d’Arc Vachon; sisters-in-law, Connie Ouellette, Juliette St. Pierre and Carmen Giguere; and his son-in-law, Daniel P. Cote.
