SEBAGO — A Bridgton man was found dead Monday evening in Peabody Pond after he went missing during a fishing trip.
According to a written statement from the Maine Warden Service, Mark H. Peters, 58, was reported missing by his wife shortly after 9 p.m. Monday.
Peters had gone fishing alone at 10 a.m. Monday and did not return home at dusk as expected. After he was reported missing, his vehicle was located at the Peabody Pond boat launch in Sebago by officers from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
A search of the pond was conducted by game wardens and a Cumberland County deputy sheriff. Peters’ submerged canoe was located at 11:30 p.m. on the Bridgton end of the pond, according to the Warden Service.
A short time later, Peters’ body was located floating about 12 feet from shore. A lifejacket was recovered near his body.
The case remains under investigation by the Maine Warden Service.
