FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners voted Monday to hire Hussey Communications Inc. to supply and install equipment to improve emergency radio communications in Phillips, Strong, Weld and Wilton.
The Winslow company’s quote was $20,239.
The only other company to submit a quote for the radio-over-Internet protocol equipment was Dirigo Wireless of Poland for $48,430.60.
The latter company included four new computers that were not requested, communication center Director Stan Wheeler said.
Commissioners opened the two sealed bids earlier in the meeting and Wheeler and Rick Davol of Communication Consulting Service Inc. in Gray reviewed them outside the room. The county contracted with Davol to oversee emergency radio communications improvement throughout the county as part of a multiphase project.
Four vendors attended a prebid meeting and Davol contacted a couple of others, but no other companies submitted proposals, Wheeler said.
Equipment will be installed at the Franklin County Regional Communications Center as part of this step.
