AUBURN – Community Credit Union recently presented a check for $850 to Washburn Elementary School to expand the Good Shepherd Food-Bank’s backpack program.
Each week children receive a discreet, resealable bag with at least one source of grain, fruit, vegetable and protein through a variety of staple meal items, breakfast foods and healthy snacks to take home over the weekend.
The program costs approximately $225 per year per student, and many students at Washburn Elementary are eligible, but funding doesn’t allow each eligible student to receive one each week. The donation is aimed at expanding the program.
