1931 – 2015

LEWISTON—Mary Riley, 84, of Lewiston passed away on Friday, Oct. 23, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Lewiston on March 6, 1931, daughter of Ada and William Maguire. Mary attended Lewiston schools and graduated from the University of Maine in Orono in 1953. She served as secretary for her UMO class for many years and always looked forward to attending reunions. She went on to earn a Master of Science in library science at Simmons College and worked for many years at Bates College as the special collections librarian. Mary was very active in St. Joseph’s Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She loved spending time at the ocean, reading, traveling and collecting Irish Belleek china.

She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia and Victoria and husband, Kevin; as well as four grandchildren, Brooks and Isabelle Layman and Jasmine and Jacob McLoughlin.

Mary was predeceased by her parents; a sister who died as an infant; and her husband, Frank Sanborn Riley.
