PORTLAND (AP) — The Maine Supreme Judicial Court has heard the appeal of a New York man convicted of fatally shooting his married girlfriend in 2012 and leaving her body in an SUV in a motel parking lot.

Anthony Pratt Jr. was sentenced to 42 years in prison last year after a jury convicted him of murder. Police said Pratt shot 29-year-old Margarita Fisenko Scott in the neck. Prosecutors say Pratt was angry that Scott was returning to her husband.

The Portland Press Herald reported (http://bit.ly/1HfEno8 ) the 22-year-old is arguing that the judge at his trial should not have allowed jurors to listen to a recorded police interview during which the lead detective repeatedly called Pratt a liar.

His lawyer says the tape was “inadmissible” because it could have prejudiced the jury.
