NEW GLOUCESTER — An SUV rolled three times on the Maine Turnpike on Wednesday, leaving a Massachusetts couple with a variety of injuries.

Maine State Police said Krissan Landry, 30, of Ayer, Mass., was driving north at about 1:30 p.m. when she steered too hard to the right after passing a tractor-trailer near the Auburn line.

Landry’s Honda Element rolled twice in the roadway, police said, before tumbling off the side of the road, where it rolled again. Landry was ejected, police said. A man in the passenger seat remained inside the vehicle and was later freed.

The driver of the tractor-trailer Landry had passed was able to swerve to avoid plowing into the SUV as it flipped across the turnpike, police said. The driver of the rig stopped and later gave a statement to investigators.

Police said Landry suffered bumps and contusions to her back and ribs. Her passenger, also from Ayer, Mass., sustained similar injuries. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening, police said.

The couple was being treated Wednesday night at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Their conditions were not immediately available.

State police were continuing to investigate the wreck.
