Veterans Day services in Livermore, Livermore Falls, Jay and Fayette on Wednesday included prayer, wreath-laying, taps and a gun salute.

Members of George Bunten American Legion Post 10, Frank L. Mitchell Veterans of Foreign War Post 3335 and Lane-Dube AMVETS Post 33 and their auxiliaries took part in services at the Livermore Falls Memorial Bridge, Brettuns Memorial in Livermore, Livermore Falls Union Park, Jay War Monument and Fayette Memorial.  

At each location, the American flag was displayed while a prayer was read. Thanks were expressed for veterans and requests for blessings of understanding for family and friends of those who gave their lives for freedom.

A firing squad, led by George St. Pierre, performed at each site and AMVETS Commander Greg McDonald played taps. Other members of the firing squad were Bill Therrien, Bob Goding, Bob Roy, Ted Soucy and David O. Smith.

A wreath was laid at the base of each monument. At the Livermore Falls Memorial Bridge, the wreath was dropped into the Androscoggin River to remember veterans who served or were lost at sea.

At Livermore Falls Union Park, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. and Sen. Tom Saviello of Wilton placed the wreath.

At the Jay War Monument, Jay native Normand Dube, Sen. John Patrick of Rumford and Rep. Paul Gilbert of Jay positioned the wreath in front of the monument. Gilbert told those assembled that Dube retired from the Navy and had served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. Dube was given a round of applause.

After the Fayette service, all veterans were invited to a light luncheon at the VFW Post in Jay.
