Bouncing back from some of life’s challenges is easier said than done. We’ve all had them in our lives – some harder to recover from than others. Finding the good in people, in life, in ourselves can seem impossible. Come get some realistic and well-researched ideas that may help you or someone you know.
Connecting & Communicating Effectively with People with Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias
Tuesday, Dec. 15, 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Instructor: Peter Baker, LMSW, Manager of Helpline Services, Alzheimer’s Association
Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. The class will explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, teach attendees how to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help them connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
Fraud and Scam Awareness: How to Protect Yourself
Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Instructor: Michael Parent, AARP
Scams and identity theft rob millions of Americans every year. Scammers are smart, creative and persistent, but there are simple steps that can be taken to protect ourselves and our families.
In this workshop attendees will learn to recognize common scams and what they can do to avoid them. They’ll learn about useful resources and receive their own fraud prevention guide.
Exploring Amazon, Libraries, & Other Free Book Sources on the Internet
Thursday, Dec. 17, 9 to 11 a.m.

Amazon.com can be overwhelming—setting up an account, navigating the site, and figuring out what Amazon Prime is all about. But…we know it’s a great place to get books and other products. We will look at all aspects of this website, plus look at some other resources for downloading free books. Bring you fully charged device! If you already have an Amazon account, bring along your user name and password—you might find a free book you want to download!
If you have a public library card (from any library in Maine), you are able to “borrow” digital books! Bring your library card number (or the card) with you for access.
