LEWISTON — Current magazine will publish its last issue in December.

Publisher Peter Flanders said last week that the level of advertising wasn’t enough to sustain it.

Current was created in 2014 after another community magazine, L-A Magazine, folded abruptly with its publisher’s arrest on charges of possessing child pornography.

“The general consensus was the prior magazine burned out the advertisers, but that just might be there was a certain desire for a different publication,” Flanders said.

Current launched with issue No. 0 in September 2014. It will end on issue No. 6.

Current Media will continue on as a company pursing other media projects.

Flanders said he was feeling more wistful than disappointed to see the magazine’s end.

“We were really active and involved as an ownership, whether we were working with the chamber or LAEGC, or Build Maine, or whatever it was, Baxter and Pecha Kucha,” he said. “We really had a great run, it was short, but it was a great run. We learned a tremendous amount and I think we had a positive effect on our community.”
