JAY — A former employee of C.N. Brown has been charged with stealing $3,504 from the Main Street fuel company, according to police.
Corey Dorr, 26, of Wilton was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of theft, Detective Michael Mejia said Friday. A conviction carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Police received a complaint from a C.N. Brown representative on Nov. 23 that $3,504 was missing after the company began noticing some inconsistencies with payments that were credited to customers’ oil accounts, Mejia said.
Mejia spoke to Dorr, who left the business a few days before the company discovered the money was missing. Mejia said he charged him with theft.
The company also determined some records were missing about the same time that Dorr left C.N. Brown, Mejia said. The business is continuing its investigation to see if more money is missing, he said.
Dorr posted $500 cash bail Thursday and was released from the Franklin County jail in Farmington.
