WILTON — Members of the Western Maine Blacksmith Association elected new officers at their meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Stepping up to lead the organization is Stan Tilton, whose father, Ray Tilton, originally founded the club. Tilton takes over from outgoing President Rodney Porter. Members thanked Porter for his long service to the club. He was presented with a symbolic wrought iron nail, reflecting his commitment to continuing the art and craft of blacksmithing and in recognition of his efforts to keep the association fastened together.
The new vice president is Laurie Barker and the secretary is Will Sampson. Janine Winn was elected to continue her role as treasurer.
Open to anyone interested in blacksmithing regardless of skill level or experience, the Western Maine Blacksmith Association meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Wilton Farm and Home Museum. The club also hosts regular open forge nights and demonstrations.
At the next meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 5, Sampson will demonstrate how to make a portable forge powered by a Japanese-style box bellows.
